Menstruation - An Untaught Topic

Menstruation – An Untaught Topic.

Does your male friend know what periods actually are? Is he aware of the menstruation cycle that girls/women go through every month?

Well, these are the questions that still need to be answered in 2019. Why? For the simple reason that people still taboo the whole concept of Menstruation, hygiene among girls/women and sex.

When the whole world has accepted the idea of equality among men and women and is implementing the same, the topic of menstruation doesn't get the much-needed attention. But why is this happening? The appropriate answer to this would be
·       The complex and regressive socio-economic and religious reasons. People in rural and urban areas still have this myth that the women become impure on her menstruation days and hence they shouldn't be allowed to make food or should not be allowed inside the temple.
·      Also, the main reason is,  as nearly half of the population doesn’t experience periods it is really important to educate both the women and men about periods.

Why educate the boys/men about menstruation?

This would make them more compassionate. This would help them to create healthier relationships with women. The more boys fully understand the experience of their girl peers, the more the stigma, shame or teasing can be removed associated with the periods.

How to teach boys/men about periods?
·      Well, we can start at home and schools, this topic should be discussed by the parents and teachers. If a child has a doubt related to the sanitary pads or periods, their question shouldn't be ignored instead should be answered with diligence.
·      If a male friend of yours asks such questions, they should be answered in a simple and in a positive tone.
·      Setting a positive tone will help them understand the whole process of menstruation easily.
·      Women/ girls should also discuss it without any hesitation as it not something alien but is completely natural.
Also, the topics related to PMS (Premenstrual syndrome), mood swings that women go through at the time of their periods should be discussed openly. Because this is not something women uses to justify their bad temperament during periods, but it is the reality they face during and before periods.

•  Public seminars can be conducted to educate not only boys but girls too.

In the 21st century, it is now really important that we talk about it and remove the taboo from the society which does nothing but kills a lot of women worldwide.
Also, I would like to thank all my female friends and sisters who educated me on this topic, which in turn motivated me to write this blog post.

Do you or your friends talk about periods? Let me know your answers and point of view in the comment section.
